About Green Power®
What is Green Power?
Green power is an environmentally friendly electricity product that is generated from
renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and even decomposing garbage in selected landfills.
Generated by Santee Cooper and distributed by Palmetto Electric Cooperative, South
Carolina’s Green Power plant is collecting methane gas at the Horry County Solid Waste
Authority Landfill, the Lee County Landfill SC, LLC and the Richland County Landfill.
There, the methane gases that would normally be released into the atmosphere - gases
that possibly contribute to global warming - will be used as "green power" fuel.
