Youth Tour-ists see D.C.
THREE STUDENTS REPRESENTING
PALMETTO ELECTRIC on
a trip to the nation's
capital in June came
back with lots of photos
and special memories.
Reid D'Amico, Madeleine
Mayer and Weslee Sewell
were among 46 South
Carolina rising high school
seniors on Youth Tour 2010,
a six-day trip to Washington,
D.C., sponsored by their
local electric cooperatives.
The students visited
landmarks, historic sites
and museums and met with
their state's congressional
delegation. They got a
close-up view of American
history. Mayer said, "I found
myself staring and gazing at
my country's Constitution
and Declaration of
Independence. I felt so
lucky to be there!"

Kristin Keller, a
marketing assistant with
Palmetto Electric who
served as a chaperone,
noted, "The gratitude and
appreciation for being given
an opportunity like this was
evident in all the students."

PalmettoPower.com
empowers teachers, kids
We've helped power up a
website full of educational
tools for teachers and fun
learning experiences for
students.
PalmettoPower.com
includes activities, lesson
plans and materials about
electricity and energy that
correspond with the S.C.
Department of Education
standards for science.
Central Electric Power
Cooperative, the generation
and transmission co-op for
Palmetto Electric Cooperative
and other distribution
co-ops around the state, is
a major sponsor of the site.
Cooperatives want to help
teachers and students learn
about producing electricity
with renewable sources that
are environmentally responsible
and economically
reasonable. The co-ops will
work with teachers in building
lesson plans and training
students to use the website
as a source of information.
Teachers can contact Kristin
Keller at Palmetto Electric
Cooperative for more
information, (843) 681-0074.
