Protecting Your Electrical Equipment From Harmful Surges
Did you know that many of the appliances and electronic equipment you use everyday could
be severely damaged by even the slightest surge in electricity.
That's because items like flat screen TVs,
washing machines, stereos, desktop computers and DVD players are very sensitive to any change in electric
voltage.If any of these items are affected by an electrical surge, you may have to pay to repair or replace
the item.
Electric Power Surges Can Be Caused By Many Factors, Including:
- Lightning hitting power, phone, or cable lines
- Trees, birds or animals coming into contact with a power line
- Vehicle accidents involving utility equipment
- Poor grounding and improper or faulty wiring
- Cycling on and off of large motors
Palmetto Electric already has lightning and surge protection built into its system of power lines.
However, Surge Guard protection is an added measure you can choose to help ensure your electrical
equipment is as safe as possible.
While Surge Guard offers some of the most affordable and effective surge protection
available, under no circumstances can we guarantee performance against a direct or nearby lightning strike.
How Surge Guard Can Help To Protect Your Equipment:
Surge Guard is a multi-layer system designed to help prevent power surges from damaging your appliances and electronics. The first layer utilizes
heavy duty primary SPDs (surge protection devices) at entrance point of the electric, phone and cable TV lines. Next, point-of-use SPDs add more
protection right where you plug-in your valuable electronics. Finally, UPS systems provide temporary backup power for critical applications. FAQ
Surge Guard Offers Three Layers of Surge Protection:
Primary Surge Protection – First line of defense for your home or business
Grounding: Power quality begins with grounding. We can help you by checking for proper
grounding at your service entrance.
Meter Base Protection (MB-SPD): We provide and install a first stage “Surge Protection Device” at the electric meter connection point. This device is available for a small
monthly charge added to your electric bill. Charges varies based on the size of your meter service. A three-year commitment is required.

Communication Protection: We offer phone and cable surge protection devices installed at
the connection point near the electric meter. When you purchase our combo installation package, it includes
equipment to protect up to (2) phone lines and (2) cable lines.
Point-of-Use Surge Protection – Secondary protection for valuable electronics
Point–of-Use Suppressors: We have available many different kinds of plug-in devices that
you can buy to use inside your home or business. Plug-in suppressors have multiple outlets and help protect
your sensitive equipment from even the smallest surges.
Uninterruptible Power Supply- UPS – Temporary power for critical applications
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS): UPS systems help prevent inconvenience and down time due
to power blinks and outages by providing backup battery power to critical electronic equipment such as computers
and network servers.

We offer payment options to make the Point-of-Use and UPS equipment affordable. We'll let you spread the cost over 12 months on
your monthly electric bills with no interest.
