Local students participate in Virtual Youth Experience

Local students participate in Virtual Youth Experience

Seven local, high school sophomores and juniors represented Palmetto Electric Cooperative on the 2021 Virtual Youth Experience, June 21-25, in place of the COVID-cancelled Washington Youth Tour and Cooperative Youth Summit.  Through the award-winning Virtual Youth Experience, rising high school juniors and seniors from across South Carolina had the opportunity to interact virtually with state and federal leaders and connect with students from other cooperatives across the state.  During the live, virtual conference, students also competed in a podcast competition where they worked in teams to produce a podcast detailing current events and issues of the day.  After the podcasts are judged and a winning team is announced, members of the winning team will each be awarded a $5,000 college scholarship.  Students also had the chance to earn money for college by applying for the $5,000 R.D. Bennett Community Service Scholarship.  Students had the potential to earn up to $10,00 in scholarships on the Virtual Youth Experience.

The future is bright, thanks to future leaders like these!
