THREE LOCAL high school juniors will represent Palmetto Electric Cooperative in the nation’s capital June 10–15 on the Washington Youth Tour.

Participants see government in action, visit historical sites, learn about co-ops and meet students from around the nation. During the event, a $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to one Youth Tour participant.

Another South Carolina participant will be selected as the state’s representative on the national Youth Leadership Council. Youth Tour applicants may also be considered for South Carolina Youth Day, a new program that involves a three-day, two-night visit to the state’s capital, tentatively set for June 26-28.

Youth Tour applicants’ primary residence must be served by Palmetto Electric. Students must submit a completed application and three letters of reference. SAT scores, class standing or grade-point average are not considered. Finalists participate in a personal interview.

Applications are available at Palmetto Electric offices and from high school guidance offices. Materials must be received by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28.
