2026 Children's Book Challenge

Congratulations to the local winners of the 2026 Children’s Book Challenge! The 2026 local group winner from Hilton Head Island Elementary School for the Creative Arts consisted of Khaleesi Velasquez, Annabelle Nelson, and Isabella Alarcon, for their book One Shocking Day. The 2026 local individual winner from Okatie Elementary School is Lily Collins for her book A Day in the Life of a Lineman.

The Children’s Book Challenge is sponsored by Souh Carolina’s electric cooperatives. The challenge invites 4th and 5th-grade students to write and illustrate original stories that highlight electric cooperatives and emphasize the important work linemen do to keep the lights on. Palmetto Electric, joined by the students’ families, surprised the winning students in their classrooms and presented them with their awards.

We are incredibly proud of Khaleesi, Annabelle, Isabella, and Lily, as well as all the students who participated, for their teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking. A special thank you also goes to their teachers for their leadership and encouragement in the classroom!
